Kids' Community Guide
Let this guide serve as your inspiration to go on many wonderful family outings, for, as educator Maria Montessori explained, it is important for children to explore the world around them in as many ways as possible. "Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and, when the grass of the meadows is damp with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning as it wakes every creature that divides its day between waking and sleeping." (The Discovery of the Child, 1912.) Please note, a listing in this guide does not imply endorsement by Woodland Montessori School and information provided here is subject to change. Parents are advised to call ahead before visiting sites listed here to confirm hours of operation and fees. In addition, parents should use their discretion regarding age appropriateness for their own children. Special thanks to B.W. Wilson for donating part of the paper for this guide; to McClung, our wonderful printer; and to all of our advertisers for their support. Thanks, also, to JMU intern Lindsey Perry and to all of the Woodland parents whose hard work made this guide possible! View/download a pdf (24 MB) |
